Boulder Faculty Assembly Minutes
Executive Committee Meeting on February 3, 2014

As is discussed in the AAUP Statement, "Report on CU’s Treatment of the Philosophy Department", Profesor Brad Monton, who was a member of the Boulder Faculty Assembly Executive Committee at the time, made some remarks that were mildly critical of the University Adminstration, of the Office of Discrimination and Harassment,  and of the Site Visit Report. Subsequently, Monton was summoned to a meeting at  which  the following people were going to be present: Professor Paul Chinowsky (the Chair of the Boulder Faculty Assembly), and Professor Andrew Cowell (the External Interim Chair of the Philsophy Department). As Monton was leaving his office for the metting, however, he was told by Professor Cowell that instead of meeting with Paul Chinowsky, they would meet with Steven Leigh (the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences).  In the end, Monton found himself in a meeting involving Andrew Cowell, Dean Steven Leigh, and Professor Mary Kraus (an Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences).

As described in the AAUP Report, Dean Steven Leigh and Professor Andrew Cowell proceeded to pressure Monton into retracting the opinions that he had presented to the Boulder Faculty Assembly Executive Committee, and also into resigning from his position on the
Boulder Faculty Assembly.

The uphot was that the original minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting of February 3, 2014, which contained Monton's criticisms of
the University Adminstration, the Office of Discrimination and Harassment,  and the Site Visit Report were removed from the Boulder Faculty Assembly website, and then replaced weeks later with revised minutes, from which Monton's criticisms had been completely removed.
