Dear Mary Axe. Thanks
a lot for Your letter which you send me by e-mail. It's very pity, that
it's impossible to realize Your project from Sister Cities International
but , I quess, you had an objective reasons. I want to thank You from all
scouts of Tajikistan and from me in person for Your attention , which You
and your colleagues pay to us. I'll try to be detailed in my answers to
Your questions: 1. Scout Association of Tajikistan is a social, nongovernment,
educating organization for the kids, teenagers and adults. We are opened
for everybody and we don't look at age, gender, nationality, religion and
social background. The members of our organization are: boys and girls
age 6 to 21 and older. Scout Association of Tajikistan officially registered
in Ministry of Justice (registration certificate No F 228). Our organization
is the only one teenage organization left after falling of the Communist
Party in the Former USSR and Tatikistan. Date of foundation of Scout Association
of Tajikistan is November l-st, 1991. Scout Association of Tajikistan have
a constant friendly and partner relationships with World Organization of
Scout Movement (Geneva-Swetzerland) and with director of this organization
dr. Jak Morallion and with director of World Scout Association in NIS dr.Bondar
Alexander Stepanovich (tel/fax 7-095-214-32-33). World Organization of
Scout Movement constantly helps us with literature and supply with all
necessary stuff. We counted about 3000 active members of our organization.
2. The representatives of our association repeatedly taking part in seminars
and conferences organized by the World Scout Organization and UN in territory
of NIS as well as abroad, where they receiving necessary knoledges to work
with kids and teenagers. 3. Scout Association of Tajikistan along with
Dushanbe leaders, ministries of education and ecology, national committee
of UNESCO in Tajikistan, held a lot of projects regarding propaganda ofhealth
education, protection of nature and environment etc. We also held teenage
exibitions, concerts, scout camps, conferences, seminars, "round tables",
devouted to the significant dates and problems of teenagers and kids. Our
guys for the past 3 years vizited summer-labor scout camps in Volgograd
(Russia). This year our delegation took part in 18-th World Scout Meeting
in Jamboree (Netherland), but unfortunately, our delegation was the smallest
one (only 7 people) 4. American Juridical Organization (USID) gave a grant
to our organization this year for the juridical education of the members
of our organization as well as representatives of the poor families (mostly
in human rights field). We already work to accomplish this project for
the last 3 months. In April '95 institute of the Soviet-American relationships
(ISAR) USID gave a grant for our organization to organize first holiday
in our republic Earth-Day which for opinion of our american colleagues
went great. At the end of my ~etter, I want to mention that our organization
unite besides kids an teenagers also representatives of science, culture,
art, literature and architecture who also actively helping to develop Scout
movement in Ta;ikistan. Dear Mary Axe, me and my colleagues have a big
desire to cooperate with representatives of Your city, to develop sense

Subject: from Rustam Karimov Tajik Scout Jamboree
Dear brother and sister Scouts, and dear friends!
During the first CIS Scout Jamboree in Armenia, in June, 1996 we, The Scouts'
Association of Tajikistan, decided to conduct the first International Tajik
Scout Jamboree, in the summer of 1997. The Scouts' Association of Tajikistan,
with great pleasure, declares itself ready to organize said Jamboree, which
is to be held from August 1 to 10, 1997 in one of the most interesting
regions of northern Tajikistan, the Leninabad region- including the Kayrakkum
reservoir for aquatic activities. The Leninabad area is a region of stability,
economically and infrastructurally one of the most advanced areas of Tajikistan.
For Scouts, the Jamboree will be a place for beginning new acquaintances
and friendships. During the course of the Jamboree, the participants will
receive an opportunity to be acquainted with the historical and cultural
sights of northern Tajikistan, and travel to the cities of Khudjand, Ura-Tube,
Isfara, and Kanibadam, the history of which totals more than 2500 years.
The participants of the Jamboree will live in "camping houses"
on the site of a recreation area.
Arrival at the Jamboree site is possible by planes from Moscow to Khudjand
or from Tashkent, Uzbekistan with an additional travel time of 3 hours
of bus. Please plan your travel together with us for the most successful
choice of a route.
Yours In Scouting,
Rustam E. Karimov
President of the Scouts' Association of Tajikistan
