Assignment #4: A Career in the Media

The purpose of this assignment is to give you a chance to take a step back and reflect on a career option in the media. It may be a career that you actually wish to pursue, or it may be one that you would like to learn more about. The research and analysis you must do for this assignment involves finding out what the entry requirements of the job are, what sorts of demands it poses for those who hold such jobs (for example, time commitments, travel, education, specialized knowledge of a particular subject, particular technical skills, etc.), what sorts of opportunities there are for advancement, and what are some likely ethical challenges that one faces in such a career. After responding to these points, briefly profile an individual who hold such a position, name the organization where they work, and explain why you think this individual is a good role model for the career you have researched. Finally, you may (if you wish) say in no more than a paragraph why you think this is an option that attracts you personally.
