About Us

The Kiwanis Club of the Golden Nuggets was founded on September 30, 1991.

Two members of the Boulder Kiwanis Club, Ken Hotaling and Myrle Hemingway, organized the club as one catering to retired men and women. Our club has 14 active members.

Our meetings are held at 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM every Tuesday and offer an atmosphere of fun, learning and fellowship. Guest speakers provide an educational, informative experience for members. Our meetings are held at the Good Samaritan Center, 2525 Taft Drive, in Boulder. Everyone is welcome. Sweet rolls, coffee, orange juice and tea are provided.

Founded in 1915 and headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, Kiwanis International is a thriving organization of service- and community-minded men and women who support children and young adults worldwide. More than 8,500 Kiwanis clubs in more than 80 countries make their mark by responding to the needs of their communities and pooling their resources to address worldwide issues. Through these efforts, Kiwanis International is truly "Serving the Children of the World."

Kiwanis clubs view their role within their respective communities with a great deal of foresight. Key aspects to operating a club include:

·Evaluating children's issues and community needs on an ongoing basis
·Conducting service projects to respond to those identified needs
·Maintaining an active membership roster of people who have the desire and ability to serve their community

Kiwanis also plays a special role in developing future generations of leaders. K-Kids clubs at the elementary school level, Builders Clubs in middle schools and junior highs, Key Clubs in high schools, and Circle K clubs at the collegiate level all are Kiwanis-sponsored organizations that teach community service and leadership skills to young people. In addition, Kiwanis also sponsors Aktion Clubs made up of adults with disabilities.

Worldwide, the entire Kiwanis family is committed to eliminating the devastating effects of iodine deficiency disorders (IDD), the world's leading preventable cause of mental retardation. More than 1.5 billion people are at risk of IDD. Through Kiwanis' efforts, many parents who have been affected by IDD are able to watch their children reach their full potential. The results of the IDD program will benefit future generations.
