The Kiwanis Club of the Golden Nuggets is currently involved in the following projects:
Club members helped obtain sponsors for the March of Dimes' WalkAmerica event held April 29, 2006. Members gathered items for and assembled gift bags to distribute to the approximately 500 participants in the event. Click on photos that show various photos taken the day of the event. The club members distributed the bags at the end of the walk.
Five members of the club participated in the "I Volunteer Day" April 23, 2005 by help build 4 picnic tables for the Acorn School. Members participating were Roger Worlock, Lewsis Headrick, Jess Kadel, Rogers Coke and Charles Hadley.

Club Members serve as "Bell-Ringers" for the Salvation Army's annual fund drive. Club Members staff the east, west and/or north side doors at Foley's department store in Boulder each Friday of the holiday season (November 26, 2004 through December 24, 2004) from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Lewis Headrick is coordinating this project for our club.

- Giving coupons to members of the Armed Forces serving overseas. Kiwanis members will collect coupons from various sources and give them to Arlene Devore who will coordinate sending them overseas.

- Members "adopt" a bus stop in the Regional Transportation District's (RTD) "Adopt-A-Stop" program. Members keep their designated bus stop(s) clean. To lean more about the program, go to the Program/Events' link at: RTD

- Club members read to children at three locations in Boulder. Members receive training and read at one of three sites of Head Start to share the joy and benefits of reading. The three sites are Woodlands, Martin Park and the Iris Center in Boulder. Members and children enjoy this activity immensely.

- The Club supports the Trail Youth Seminars program by sponsoring a high school student's tuition at the seminar given by the program.
- Golden Nuggets Kiwanis supports the Car Seat program sponsored by the Boulder Kiwanis Club. This picture shows Bill Flinchbaugh left, presenting a car seat to Arlene Devore, immediate past president, , Boulder Kiwanis Club, with Charles Hadley, Golden Nuggets Kiwanis past president, in the center. Arlene donated the car seat that was sold at the silent auction at the Kiwanis International Rocky Mountain District Convention that was held August 12-15, 2004. Other club members donated items such as blankets and clothing to fill the car seat. Proceeds of the auction are used to benefit children's programs.

Recently Completed Projects:

- Helping staff the University of Colorado home football games. Dave Finlay, Roger Worlock, Lewis Headrick, Matt DeYoung, and Ellen Headrick participated by taking tickets and helping attendees with directions, etc. Arlen Devore coordinated the effort for our club.
- Helped at the Kiwanis International Rocky Mountain District Convention on August 13 and 14 in Longmont, Colorado by staffing the "Kiwanis Store". Members sold items with the Kiwanis logo on them. Items included clothing, office supplies, jewelry and briefcases. Below are pictures taken of members working at the store:

- National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America event on March 3. Arlene Devore, Jess Kadel, Roger Worlock, Charles Hadley and Rogers Coke read to children in different classes at Heatherwood Elementary School in Boulder. Billy Kitchen took pictures of the event.
Arlene had a special treat in that she read to Preston and Zachary, her two grandsons.
The event's goal is to celebrate and communicate the joys of reading. The event also celebrated the 100 the birthday of Dr. Suess, the author of many children's books. Club members read various Dr. Suess books including "The Cat in the Hat". The members wore hats as depicted by Dr. Suess in his books.

- Book Collection - The club sorted through boxes of books from the Boulder Public Library to give to the Head Start Program.

- Last year, Arlene Devore hosted Madina, a member of the Russian delegation from the Center for Citizen's Initiative that came to Boulder. Attached is a photo of Arlene and Madina provided by Billy Kitchen. Arlene is on the right.

- Members helped with the Fairview High School International Baccalaureate (IB) Program by being door monitors and proctors.

- Member Billy Kitchen repaired a playhouse for the children at Martin Park Pre-School
|
- Child Car Seat Safety Event - Members participated in the Car Seat Safety Training Event held in Boulder. Bill Flinchbaugh of the Boulder Kiwanis Club led the event. The purpose of the event is to educate parents in the proper installation and care of child car seats and Colorado laws concerning child car seats.
