Plant Systematics and Evolution
My interests include breeding system evolution, the evolution of plant diversity and the natural history of the Hawaiian Islands, but I will talk to anyone anytime about any aspect of botanical research and gardening.
Teaching
I coordinate the labs for the following plant biology courses offered in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado: Plant Biodiversity and Evolution, Plant Anatomy and Development, Plant Systematics and Plant Eco-Evo-Devo. In these laboratory-based courses, we offer a unique opportunity for students to create digital images of the specimens with state-of-the-art microscopy equipment. I work closely with the greenhouse manager, Tom Lemieux, to offer an amazing selection of live plants for these classes. If I am lucky, I occasionally have the chance to teach some of these classes.
