Life Practice
"Not true. Just a story!"

The negative stories we tell about others, ourselves, and life can torment us. When we believe the stories are true, we give them power to hurt us and others. When we catch ourselves in a negative story, we can use the practice "Not true. Just a story!" This will stop the negative story long enough for us to evaluate how true it is and how much of it is fiction. This moment of being awake will give us a choice to change or discard the story. Since we all make up stories, we should try creating positive stories if we can. Why? They will make us a lot happier and they will quickly improve our self-esteem and our relationships.
