Detection of protein docking to membrane by fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET). This method, developed in the Falke lab, makes use of intrinsic protein tryptophan as a FRET donor, and a membrane containing a small mole percent of dansylated lipid as FRET acceptor. The method provides sensitive, selective detection of the protein population docked to the membrane surface (Nalefski, Slazas & Falke, 1997; Nalefski et al., 2001; Nalefski & Falke, 2002).
