Late-breaking news: there will be a new test, to be given on November 10 (we voted in class today, November 1).  Here is the procedure.  There will be three midterms rather than the usual two.  I will drop the first midterm if it lowers your average grade at the end of the course; I will keep the first midterm if it raises your average grade--hence the first midterm cannot hurt you.  The other two midterms will follow the procedure as discussed in the syllabus--that is, I will drop either the 2nd or the 3rd midterm if that raises your grade; otherwise all will be counted.  Here is the weighting for the various options:
     .2(1st Mid)+.2(2nd Mid)+.2(3rd Mid)+.4(Final)
(For those who do relatively better on all midterms than on final.)
    .25(higher of 1st or 2nd Mid)+.25(3rd Mid)+.5(Final)
(For those who did not do well on one of the first two tests.)
    .4(higher of 1st or 2nd Mid)                 +.6(Final)
(For those doing relatively poorly on the 3nd midterm.)
    or, finally,                +.4(3rd Mid)  +.6(Final)
(For those doing relatively poorly on both of the first two tests compared to the 3rd midterm and the final.)

NOTE: To get out of the final, you can average 98 or better on:
    *all three midterms, or
*the first midterm and the third midterm, or
*the second midterm and the third midterm.

NOTE: The next midterm on November 10 will cover the first 9 modules and module 16c.

Note:  The answers that go along with the tests match up properly with that scrambling of the questions--but they are not scrambled like your tests were for inexplicable reasons.  However, the answers in the file called "Answers (to all)" will have the correct answers in the proper order for the tests that you took (though they won't be too helpful for the white test people).
