Projects10/25/11: Mark and Alina are awarded a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to host three annual conferences addressing the microbiology of the built environment.
10/1/11: Mark and Alina head to the American Association for Aerosol Reserach conference in Orlando, FL to present biopolymers data from the gulf project.
9/1/11: Kevin leaves the lab for a position in the Pace Lab in MCDB here at CU.
8/16/11: Mark is awarded a CBET grant from NSF to compare biopolymers between flooded and unflooded indoor environments. This award will fund Jane Turners PhD thesis research!
6/28/11: Kevin and Jane head to Dillard University in New Orleans to help train students in air sampling techniques.
6/4/11: Alina presents phylogeny data for samples collected from a flood-impacted indoor environment at Indoor Air in Austin, TX.
5/24/11: Ali presents preliminary microbially-induced concrete corrosion data at American Society for Microbiology general meeting in New Orleans.
5/24/11: The Gulf sampling crew returns from third and final trip.
2/21/11: Kevin, Ben, Jane, and Ali return from the second gulf sampling trip. There is still a lot of oil beneath the sand at the Louisiana beach. See article for a description.
2/15/11: The paper "Biopolymer Association with Hydrocarbon Weathering on Oil-Spill Impacted Shorelines" by Alina M. Handorean, Kevin M. McCabe, Jane Turner, Alison Ling, Benjamin J. Miller and Mark T. Hernandez was accepted for a presentation at the 10th International Conference on Carbonaceous Particles in the Atmosphere that will take place in Vienna, Austria, June 26-29, 2011.
10/16/10: Mark, Alina, Kevin, and Jane attend AAAR Annual Meeting in Portland, OR
4/21/10: Kevin and Alina are awarded an NSF RAPID grant for a multi-seasonal study of the biochemistry and toxicology of aerosols generated as a result of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. See article for a description.
