That truck on the other side got cut off.  The little car, little white car cut in front of him.  He tried to avoid the collision.  There was nowhere else for him to go but through the barriers.  These axles you can see right here laying next to us came up and hit the truck in the blue, the blue truck, and the van right here was right next to him.  And the wheels bounced off this truck.  The guy who was driving the truck was one of the people they life-flighted out of here.  He was in pretty bad shape.  The guys here, they were real lucky to be alive.  Their truck, as soon as those wheels bounced off and hit them, and they started spinnin'…you can see they came down in the ditch.  They just barely missed this pole here.  You can see the diesel fuel all over this truck there.

Qu: Everything was in flames?

Everything was in flames.  The driver of the truck, he got out.  He walked out of the truck, which was amazing to all of us.

Qu: ...of the semi?

The semi, yes.  He got up and walked away from the truck.  And that was before the truck caught on fire.  It was pretty much sparking at the time. As soon as he got out of it, it started flaming.

Qu: (asks about the driver of the other vehicle)

They life-flighted him to the hospital.  He’s in pretty bad shape.  He was unconscious when we got to him.  He was in pretty bad shape.

Qu: How did you see this?

I was behind him, I was coming down the road behind him.  I was on a motorcycle, so it was a little easier for me to maneuver around the cars.  Still, to see that semi comin’, you see your life flash before you.  I think all of us here are pretty lucky today.

Qu: I’d like to hear about the guy.

The driver of the truck?  When he came out, when the truck turned over, it was pretty much all intact.  But it was just a little bit of smoke.  He rolled right out of the front windshield and stood right up, started walking right toward us.  He’s got a pretty good-sized gash above his head, and it looks like his nose is broken, and maybe some back injuries, but he was real coherent, knew where he was, knew who he was, and kept telling people that somebody cut him off, which...We were behind him and that’s what it looked like to us, because he tried to make an evasive action.  And in my opinion, the guy did everything he could not to hit anybody.  I mean, he was doin’... and how we didn’t get hit, I don’t know.  How this is all that happened, I don’t know, because there should have been more that happened than this, ‘cause there were cars everywhere.  I mean, they were all over the place.  But he walked right out of there.  And we never went down the other way.  We just tried to help this guy.  The ambulances couldn’t get through, so we just tried to help this guy.  There was a girl here.  I don’t know her name.  She gave us blankets and medical kits and stuff, and we just helped that one guy until they got here.

Qu: (something about the truck driver’s condition)

He knew exactly where he was, what day it was, who he was, where he was going, what he was doing.  He told us about it.
