This course is designed to introduce you to the basics of broadcast news and presentation, to make you more capable and confident working in a multi-media journalism environment. As much as possible, we will work with assignments you are producing in print journalism courses, Campus Press, or internships, to explore ways in which you can present those stories in a broadcast medium.
There is no required text for this course. It is strongly recommended that you have a stopwatch or other timing device. You will need access to an audio recording device.
¨ Grading
*More than half of your grade will be based on the smaller assignments we do, mostly in class. That also necessitates that you are in class every day. Hence, part of your weekly assignments grade will be based on attendance and participation.
-- In addition, you will be expected to do a short paper looking at a particular print/ broadcast relationship and how it works.
-- For your final project, you will present one of your print stories in a broadcast format.
Deadlines: Meeting deadlines is a fact of life in news, whether broadcast or print. Assignments not turned in on time will receive an automatic reduction in grade.
Academic Honesty: CU has adopted an honor code to promote a culture of academic integrity. The code can be found at http://www.colorado.edu/academics/honorcode/
A word of warning: Turning in work that is not your own will result in failure on the assignment, possible dismissal from the class and/or other actions provided for in the honor code.
