Jim Johnson, Professor Emeritus of the Painting and Drawing faculty of the
Department of Art & Art History at the University of Colorado at Boulder
since 1970, developed the department's Computer Imaging program. He produced over 60
videotaped interviews with participants in the department's Visiting
Artist Program and interviewed many of them personally for the WHAT
FOLLOWS...series. He was instrumental in developing the Center
for Arts, Media and Performance for the ATLAS Institute and served as
it's first Director.
In addition to paintings, sculptures and prints, he makes artist's books
and
designs typefaces, bumper stickers and T-shirts. He has a long-held
interest in the relationship of words and images
and has recently published his latest artist book, FAMOUS LAST WORDS. His
book/installation,
"A Thousand Words" is in the Denver Art Museum's Permanent Collection.
Other books are in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York
and the archives of the Chicago, San Francisco and Otis Art
Institutes.
