Internship in Economics

Before you start the application process, please read the following:

I. The regular internship class is offered during the spring semester. I work with students who wish the receive internship credit for internship work during the fall or summer, or with students who are not able to register for the regular spring class, but still wish to receive internship credit during the spring semester.

II. If after reading the above information you wish to continue with the process, please take the following steps:

Download the Word document that is required for applicants and using the application form:

  1. Provide the information listed on the form under Employer Information.

  2. Provide the information listed on the form under Internship Information.

  3. Provide a Position Description as described on the form.

  4.  Describe your Educational Objectives as described on the form.

  5.  Provide a Self Evaluation as described on the form.

You should send this information to me in an e-mail. Please include all text that you write as part of the e-mail message and not as an attachment - there is no need to send the form back to me.

III. Once I have this information, I can tell you either:

  1.  Your internship has been approved for credit and we can continue the application process.

  2.  I still need further details that I will specify.

  3.  Unless your internship is modified, you will not be able to receive credit with the Dept. of Economics.

For example, credit will not be given for internships where the intern's work primarily consists of clerical, office and/or other duties that provide minimal learning opportunities to the intern.

IV. It would be a good idea to read the Learning Activities part of the form before you continue. This will give you a better idea of what we are looking for - an internship that the student can learn from and relate to some of the economics that you learn in the classroom.

 Thanks,

 Jay Kaplan
