IF/IW Grades
The College of Arts and Sciences no longer awards IW grades, only IF grades.
The policy governing IF grades is:
An IF grade is given only when students,
for reasons beyond their control, have been unable to complete
the course requirements. A substantial amount of course
work must have been satisfactorily completed before
approval for such a grade is given.
In my courses,
- "a substantial amount" means: at least half.
- "satisfactorily completed" means: completed with a passing grade.
An IF grade is not granted in the situation where a student
has fallen behind, but missed the drop date. The correct procedure
in this case is for the student to petition the dean for permission to
drop the course after the drop date.
