I am a geographical information scientist and teach at CU Boulder since 2007. My research interests are centered around the geospatial sciences with core expertise on small area demographic estimation, dasymetric modeling, spatio-temporal analysis and uncertainty assessment. An important component of my methodological research is the development of information extraction approaches using machine learning to unlock spatial data from historical maps or to reverse-engineer land cover data from remote sensing imagery.

Thematically, I am engaged in interdisciplinary research bridging between the social, environmental and computer sciences to advance our knowledge of human-environment interactions. In particular, this research focuses on key processes such as urbanization and land cover change over long time periods and how these processes interact with environmental processes in a natural hazard context. Please have a look at my research and teaching pages if you are interested, see some publications and learn about ongoing projects.
