Instructions
    The Mars Underground Button

You have been selected as a member
and potential contributor to the Mars
Underground. This closely knit but loosely
woven network of individuals, represent-
ing government, private industry, and
individuals, has one major goal: Landing
of the human species on, and eventual
occupancy of, the red planet Mars.
This button should be worn well hidden
and quickly flashed only when appropriate
as a "high" sign to other members of the
Underground. Preferably, the button
should be located under the lapel of a suit
jacket. Blatent display of the Underground
button is appropriate, however, at first
sight of (l) the NASA Administrator, (2) a
Congressperson or Senator, (3) a self-
replicating robot, or (4) someone who
states manned Mars expeditions are
politically unwise; they are unaffordable in
"real dollars"; technically out-of-the-
question; should be turned overto robots;
or left to the Soviet Union because Mars is
red already.
Wear your button with pride and re-
strained dedication. You are now part of a
unique and ever-growing awareness that
the third and fourth planets of this solar
system are inexorably linked by the
continuing growth of our technological
civilization.
