Pictures from Birdoswalda
These were taken at the excavation/museum site of Birdoswalda along
Hadrian's Wall in the North of England.

This is the main gate of the old fortress. The original gate would have
stood several meters high, with a double-gate.
The lower stone blocks
just left of center would have been the central pillar of the
gate.
(Those white flecks on the grass are clumps of sheep's
wool. There were sheep everywhere!)

A section of Hadrian's Wall
just outside the fortress of Birdoswalda.
As you can see, the modern
road runs just a few feet alongside portions of the wall.
