Course Text:
We will use the text "A Course in Functional Analysis", Second Edition, by John B. Conway, Graduate Texts in Mathematics, vol. 96, Springer, New York, NY, 1990.
Course Information:

The material covered will include most of Chapters III, IV, and V, and part of Chapter VI, in the textbook. These topics include:
Topological vector spaces, Banach spaces - bounded linear functionals and the Hahn-Banach Theorem, bounded linear operators between normed spaces, the Open Mapping Theorem and Closed Graph Theorem, the Uniform Boundedness Principle, locally convex topoplogical vector spaces, subspaces, extension of linear functionals and general versions of the Hahn-Banach Theorem, convexity and the Krein-Milman theorem. Other topics will be covered as time permits.
Prerequisite:
Math 6320, or instructor consent. A good background in linear algebra is helpful, too.

Assessment: Lecture Hours and Venue:
MWF 3 p.m.- 4 p.m. ECCR 110
Office Hours:
MWF 1- 2 p.m. or by appointment.
