Course Information:
The material covered will include some of Chapter 0, parts of Chapter II, and most of Chapters III, IV, and V in the textbook, with portions of Chapters VI and VIII included if time permits. Topics to be covered include: Topological vector spaces, Banach spaces, Hilbert spaces, continuous linear functionals on topoplogical vector spaces, bounded linear functionals on Banach spaces and Hilbert spaces, subspaces, extension of linear functionals and the Hahn-Banach Theorem, convexity and the Krein-Milman theorem, bounded linear operators between Hilbert spaces.

Prerequisite:
Math 6320, or instructor consent.

Course Text:
We will use the text "Functional Analysis, A Primer" by L. Baggett, Marcel Dekker, 1992, covering much of the first half of the book. Since this book is out of print, with the permission of the author, the CU Bookstore is selling photocopies of it.
Assessment: Lecture Hours and Venue:
