Research Objectives

The Reservoir Characterization and Modeling Laboratory (RCML) at the University of Colorado at Boulder conducts applied research in carbonate and clastic stratigraphy and sedimentology and investigates the link to reservoir architecture, heterogeneity, and performance. This research integrates geological, geophysical, petrophysical and other data from outcrop and subsurface studies to describe, characterize, and model the architecture, facies, rock fabric, and heterogeneity of carbonate and clastic systems and reservoirs. A primary goal is to assess the dominant controls on reservoir quality and distribution. Static characterization of clastic and carbonate systems and reservoirs is part of the story. Dynamic reservoir modeling is important to validate geologic interpretations and calibrate geologic models.
