Landscape Interpretation. Instructor. (Summer 2001). Designed and lead interdisciplinary field course in historical ecology, focusing on field techniques for assessing the historical influences of geology, soils, climate, disturbance and land use on particular landscapes throughout Wisconsin.

General Botany. Teaching assistant. (Sept. 1998 – May 1999). Lab instructor for intro. biology class focused on the basic principles and concepts in botany: respiration, photosynthesis, cell function, reproduction, physiology, and an evolutionary survey of the plant kingdom.

Principles of Plant Structure. Teaching assistant. (Jan.-May 1997, 1998). Assisted and assessed students in examining morphological aspects of root, stem and leaf development using relevant examples from algae, mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants.

Dendrology. Teaching assistant. (Jan.-Dec. 1996). Identified taxonomic characters for the classification of over 200 woody plant species in the field. Extensive keying, winter twig identification and specimen collection.

Physical Systems of the Environment. Teaching assistant. (Sept. 1994-May 1995).   Conducted weekly exercises in the field and the lab on basic physical systems of the environment including biogeography, soils, climate and geomorphology.

Environmental Conservation. Teaching assistant. (Sept. 1993-May 1994). Led discussion sections for an upper level conservation class, which stressed critical thinking and clear writing about current environmental issues.
