Fall 2012 Registration FAQ

Q. How do I schedule a time to meet with you to talk about Fall 2012 registration?
A:
1) Visit http://aacportal.colorado.edu
2) Login to the site with your Identikey and password.
3) Click on <Schedule Advising Appointment> on the top menu.
4) Select an appointment slot that works for you and click on the link.
5) Type in the reason for your appointment and click Sign Up.
6) You will receive an email confirmation for your scheduled appointment.

Q. Am I required to meet with you in order to register for Fall 2012 courses?
A. In most cases, no. Only specific populations of students are required to meet with an advisor prior to registering (NCAA athletes, academic probation students or students with more than 45 credits). The best way to make sure of this is to check for holds on MyCUinfo (how do I do this?)

Q. I would like to declare my major before registering. How do I do this?
A. You can always meet with me to discuss potential majors but to actually declare, you will need to meet with an advisor in the academic department that houses your intended major.

1) Go to:  http://aacportal.colorado.edu
2) Log in using your Identikey and password
3) Click on "Major/Minor Declaration Info"
4) Select the major you want to declare.
5) Select a meeting or appointment that works for you and click on the link.
6) Type in reason for your appointment/meeting and click Sign Up.

Q. When can I register for classes?
A. You can view your time assignment on http://mycuinfo.colorado.edu. (show me how!)

Q. Why is my time assignment so late?
A. While registration starts April 2nd, not everyone registers at the same time (this would be bad). Instead, the Registrar staggers time assignments over a four week period. Those time assignments are determine by the number of credits you have earned including those credits in progress (courses you are taking this fall). The more credits you have completed, the earlier you can register for classes. So it may seem late this semester but it will only get earlier from here!

Q. I received an email/voice mail/telegram from a campus office telling me there is a hold/stop/flag on my registration. What do I do?
A. Other offices (Registrar, Bursar, etc) can prevent you from registering for spring classes by placing a hold on your account. Most of the time the office alerts you directly of the hold but that's no guarantee. The sure way to make sure you do not have any registration holds is to check your status through http://mycuinfo.colorado.edu. (How do I do this?)
If you have a hold on your account, it is best to take care of it as soon as possible. Only the office who placed the hold on your account can remove that hold.

Q. Where do I go to register for classes?
A. Unlike orientation, there is no physical space you need to report to to register. All you need is a computer connected to the Internet to register. You will register through the portal at http://mycuinfo.colorado.edu. (How do I do this?)

Q. What classes should I take next semester?
A. As an Open Option major, I would recommend courses that help you explore potential majors. You might already be doing that this fall in which case, you could further explore a major or try exploring a new one. Exploratory courses are usually either core classes and electives. While it is important to track core classes and electives, do not get too hung up on having too many of one or the other in your schedule. The important thing is to take courses that help you choose your major.

Q. How do I search for core classes?
A. Click here to see how.

Q. How do I know what core categories I have completed and which ones I still need to complete?
A. You can use your degree audit to track not only core classes but all of your degree requirements.

Q. How do I find my degree audit?
A:
  1. Login to the Portal - https://mycuinfo.colorado.edu
  2. Click the "Student" tab
  3. Click the “Degree Audit/Transfer Credit Evaluation” Button
  4. Re-enter your IdentiKey and password on the next screen.
  5. Click submit to retrieve your current program/major.
If you need some help interpreting your audit, try this: http://psych.colorado.edu/~advising/dan/faq/dars_read.html
