MATH 3210: Euclidean and Non-Euclidean Geometry

Spring 2020

MWF 1:00-1:50 pm, ECCR 131

Prerequisites

The material from the prerequisite courses (Discrete Mathematics/Number Systems and Linear Algebra) needed for this course includes the following:
  • basics of logic: logical connectives, quantifiers, determining the truth value of a statement, negating statements, logical equivalence
  • methods of proof, mathematical induction; recognizing logical errors, constructing simple proofs
  • sets, operations on sets
  • functions, one-to-one and onto functions, composition of functions, inverse function
  • equivalence relations and partitions
  • vector spaces over R, linear combinations, span, linear independence, basis
  • equations for lines in R2 (general form, slope‒intercept form, point‒slope form, two-point form)
  • linear transformations and their matrices in given bases
  • R2 as a Euclidean space; orthogonal transformations and orthogonal matrices
