Class Attendance and In-Class Activities

Student Responsibilities

  • Class attendance is expected. Class attendance, active contribution and performance on in-class exercises, discussions and dialogue contribute 200 points to your grade.
  • Missing classes may significantly impact your grade since much of the activities and learning occurs during our class sessions.
  • It is your responsibility to sign the attendance sheet for each class, to keep up with the work, to have read and come prepared to talk about the assigned readings for each day, to pick up handouts, and to check the class web site regularly for any assignment changes during the term.
  • I will not normally lecture on assigned readings. Rather, we will participate in discussion on the readings and spend class time learning how to apply or relate the reading material to life and work.

If you must miss a class

If you must miss a class it is your responsibility to turn in any assignments (and make sure I receive them) prior to class and to get any homework assignments, handouts and notes from a fellow class member. Please be sure to contact that person ahead so s/he will be prepared to take notes for you. You are responsible for catching yourself up on anything you might have missed.

Late Assignments

Late assignments will not be accepted without prior agreement. In most cases your assignment is applicable to that class period and little value is gained by doing it "after the fact." It is important that you stay current with your assignments. The only exception is unavoidable circumstances on your part and prior agreement with me to turn in a late assignment.

What if the instructor misses a class?

Students are not expected to wait for me longer than 15 minutes. If I miss a class due to unavoidable circumstances, we will cover the material at the next class period.
