Learning Contract
Learning happens from:
1)
The actual content of
our conversations; and,
2)
experiential learning
and skill-building from talking about differences.
Sometimes it feels
uncomfortable, however, for learning to occur, we need to create an atmosphere
of candor and respect in this class.
To that end, here are some
premises:
- We are as sincerely interested in learning from
others as we are in sharing our own insights.
- We present our views with respect and patience.
- We take the chance to be honest and we listen
when others do the same.
- We are committed to keeping the conversation
going, not withdrawing if it gets challenging, and encouraging others to
stay involved.
- We agree to assume a difference in information
rather than a negative intent in comments that bother us.
- We accept that if learning is going to happen
here, we need to give people the opportunity and freedom to change their
minds.
