Text:  I. Martin Isaacs: Finite Group Theory, GSM vol. 92, AMS 2008.

Course description:  The topics we will discuss include nilpotent and solvable groups, the Schur-Zassenhaus Theorem, Hall's Theorems, the transfer and its applications, primitive and multiply transitive groups, and simple linear groups.

Prerequisites: MATH 6130 (Modern Algebra 1)    

Assignments:  There will be regularly assigned homework. You will be asked to work on the assignments in small groups. Different groups will get different problems, and are asked to submit solutions to all problems in pdf. When in final form, solutions will be posted. You should read your classmates' solutions.
You will also be asked to give short presentations in class.

Getting Help: Don't wait until it is too late if you need help.

I am available during my office hours and many other times. If you can't see me during office hours, then make an appointment with me to see me at a different time. I will also give short answers to questions sent to me by email.
