Several companies are actively building airships for sale,
while others are building experimental prototypes. Another group
of companies lease and operate airships for business clients.
Below are listed the companies that I know are directly involved
with airships. I may have inadvertlty missed some of them.
I would greatly appreciate it if you would please send changes,
corrections, information, and updates to me
so that I may keep this section accurate and current. I do not
know everything and would appreciate your input.
It may suprise some of you to see the Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik
in the list below. The Zeppelin Company did not end with the
demise of the Hindenburg. It survived WW2 and today primarily
manufactures heavy-duty machinery. In late 1997 they flew their
first airship since 1940.

Perhaps in a category of its own, Goodyear Tire &
Rubber Company "recycles" its fleet of airships, refurbishing,
renewing and rebuilding their existing blimps every couple
of years. GTR does not build "new" blimps, though. The
former Goodyear Aerospace Corporation, now owned by Lockheed-Martin,
has the rights to build new airships, but doesn't have
any customers to warrant construction at this time. |
