Step 1: Getting Started

Welcome! We are excited to have you join us as a CU Boulder student! Your New Student Welcome Experience will have a variety of steps for you to complete over the summer and through your first week of classes. Two main components are the Online Experience and Fall Welcome. The Online Experience will be completed over the summer and will prepare you for working with your advisor, registering for classes and learning more about campus support services. Fall Welcome starts the week before classes begin and is an in-person orientation which will connect you with your academic program and important campus resources.

1. Online Requirements

The Online Experience is our online orientation program, which provides the information you need to succeed as a student, register for classes and work with an advisor. You must complete the Online Experience before you can register for classes.

In addition to the Online Experience, you must also complete Community Equity. This is another online course to learn more about university policy and resources for discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct.

2. Placement Assessments

Incoming students may be required to complete placement assessments in order to enroll in certain classes. Please review the placement assessments to identify which assessments you need to take. Take relevant assessments soon; your results assist us in preregistering you for the correct classes. Log in with your Identikey and password.

3. Fall Welcome: August 20th - August 30th

Fall Welcome is our in-person orientation and your opportunity to learn more about your academic program, campus resources and to start building community at CU. Be sure to download the “CU Boulder Welcome” app in the app store to stay up-to-date with a list of programs and events.

For students living in the residence halls, Fall Welcome begins with move-in. You will be assigned a specific day and time to move-in, details will be sent to your CU Boulder email account.

Step 2: Advising

Advising Appointments:

Complete the Online Experience before you schedule an advising appointment.

Academic Advisors will help you personalize your academic journey. They provide support during your transition to CU Boulder and throughout your time on campus by helping you develop and attain your educational, personal and career goals.

Step 3: Register

First Year Students:

There are five enrollment date windows available to you (July 8–11; July 15–18; July 22–25; July 29–August 1 or August 5-8). Choose the enrollment dates that works best for you and your schedule, you do NOT need to come to campus to register. You will not be able to change your enrollment dates after you have selected. Spaces in classes are evenly distributed for each set of enrollment dates, so you won’t miss out on the chance to get into a class if you choose later dates.

Transfer Students:

There are two enrollment date windows available for you to register. You may register for classes between May 28 – June 14 and July 8 – August 21. You must complete the Online Experience before you are able to register for classes. We strongly recommend talking with your advisor as soon as you can; they will have helpful advice about how your credits will transfer and what courses you should take.

Step 4: Finish

If you are on Step 4, you have completed the Online Experience, met with your advisor and registered for classes!

There are still a few things you need to complete before starting classes in August. Your next steps are:

Complete Community Equity. As a member of the CU Boulder community, your interactions with others help shape our campus environment. The Community Equity course provides important information on the CU Boulder policy relating to sexual misconduct, discrimination and harassment. To get started, log in with your IdentiKey and password. This is a required course, you are encouraged to complete by August 1.
Complete CheckUp & Choices (C&C). The C&C WellCheck is one of your first steps in a healthy and successful first year at CU Boulder. You will have the opportunity to think about your goals, reflect on your values and how they translate to your student experience and familiarize yourself with wellness resources as a CU Boulder student. This is a required course, you are encouraged to complete by August 1.
Complete Health Requirements. All incoming students are required to complete the health insurance and immunizations requirements.
Submit your Buff OneCard Photo. Your Buff OneCard is your campus ID, which gives you access to your residence hall, labs, classrooms, meal plans, printing, the Rec Center, sporting events and more. The deadline to submit your photo is July 30.
Remember, holds and to-do items must be completed in order to register for the spring 2020 semester.
Review the Student tab in MyCUInfo. On the Student tab, you will see your class schedule (including grades, textbooks and finals schedule), billing information, Financial Aid and important dates and deadlines. Familiarize yourself with the student tab because after classes start you will use it to complete all of your University business. The New Student Welcome tab will go away two weeks after the semester begins.
