NEXT Group Open Positions News
Open Research Assistant/Associate
Positions
(Updated on December 14, 2010)
The
NEXT research group led by Professor Ronggui Yang of Mechanical Engineering
Department at the University of Colorado-Boulder has 3 open positions for
post-doctoral research associates or Ph.D research
assistants that need to be filled by Spring 2011. In general, the NEXT group is
interested in both the fundamentals of micro/nanoscale energy transport and
conversion and the applications of micro/nano-technologies for energy
conversion/storage and thermal management systems. We usually commit our
financial support for > 2 years for post-doctoral research associates and
>4 years for Ph.D students (hopefully until they
complete their Ph.D degrees). The three immediate
open positions are:
Position
#1 (post-doc): Liquid-vapor phase-change heat transfer. The candidate for this
post-doc research associate position should have experiences on either
modeling/simulation or experimental techniques for liquid-vapor phase-change
heat transfer while it is more desirable to have experiences on both areas. In
particular, we are interested in evaporation, condensation, and boiling on
micro/nano-structured surfaces and the scaling of the micro/nanoscale processes
for large scale systems, which would involve multi-scale modeling/simulation
and experimentation.
Position
#2 (post-doc or Ph.D student): Optical
characterization of thermal transport in nanostructures. The candidate for this
position should have strong experiences with laser-based characterization of nanoscale thermal transport, such as pump-and-probe method
or AC calorimetry.
Position
#3 (post-doc or Ph.D student): Modeling, synthesis,
and characterization of nanomaterials/nanostructures
for energy applications. In general we are interested in nanomaterials/nanostructures
for energy conversion and storage devices, such as photovoltaics,
thermoelectrics, lithium ion batteries, and thermal
energy storage. In particular, those who have strong experiences in multiscale
and multi-physics modeling and simulations for either fundamentals or
device/system research in electrochemical or thermal energy storage are
encouraged to apply.
For
post-doctoral research associate positions, applications including the
following items as PDF file attachment should be sent in a single email to
Professor Ronggui Yang (Ronggui.Yang@Colorado.Edu)
with the subject “post-doctor application”:
1).
Detailed CV, 2). Contact information of three reference letter writers, 3). A
2-3 page research statement describing the past achievement and his/her visions
of his/her own research field. 4). A short statement of how he/she fits to any
of the above mentioned open positions and his/her career goal.
We
usually respond to a complete application package within a week with follow-up
inquiries if we see a match.
As
an individual group, we do not offer answers or guidance to general inquiries
for graduate application/admission since those could be well taken care of by our
graduate office. We generally offer Research Assistantship (RA) positions
to high profile students who have demonstrated research capabilities through
their master’s study.
