- JOUR 4341: International Media and Global Crises (Syllabus)
This upper level undergraduate course examines the ownership of major media, the nature of advertising, the business process outsourcing that the Internet enables, and, news and the entertainment content that media provide. This is analyzed against the backdrop of global-national-local tussles and is embedded in history, economics, politics and culture.
- JOUR 1001: Contemporary Mass Media Examines mass media's interaction with society and looks at journalism and mass media in historical, intellectual, economic, political, and social contexts.
- JOUR 6051: Theories of Mass Communication Studies theories and perspectives of mass communication and explores the role of mass media in society.
- JOUR 6871: Global Media, Development, and Democracy 2004 (Syllabus)
This grad seminar analyses the role of communication media in promoting development and democracy in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. It is divided into three main parts: global media, development applications and implications for democracy.
