Life
Practice
"It could be worse!"
When we're not feeling too well, when we're disappointed
in ourselves for a failure of courage, when we've lost a job, when we're
unhappy about how others have treated us, we can begin to feel sorry
for ourselves. When we find ourselves in that "poor me" state of mind,
we can use the life practice, "It could be worse!"
As soon as we say this to ourselves, we begin to think of other circumstances
that could be far worse. Thinking of those comparisons wakes us up to
the fact that things aren't that bad and, in fact, other people have
far bigger problems than we do. This simple shift of thinking from self-pity to "things aren't that bad" opens the way to pursue new possibilities.
With less darkness and more light in our thinking, we can deal with
our situation more effectively.
